At DSU, we make K-12 students a top priority by offering pre-service teachers the skills they need to educate ALL students, regardless of their abilities. Special education is a high needs area and DSU values and educates our pre-service teachers to effectively facilitate learning for a wide range of abilities, including students who have autism, behavior, cognitive, and/or learning disabilities.

Teachers of students with special needs do not merely apply detailed plans, tailored to every student in their room. They track practice and progress. They modify their plans and daily activities. They cheer every effort. And when one of their students reaches a milestone, that moment is etched in a teacher's heart.

Integrated technology

With DSU’s technical focus, you’ll be prepared to teach with the latest classroom technology. You’ll use one-to-one wireless mobile computers on campus, so you can teach in one-to-one classrooms. You’ll be fully prepared to teach with essential technology as it emerges. DSU has a strong tradition of preparing quality teachers that know how and when to use technology to enhance student learning. Schools that employ our graduates know our first-year teachers are well-prepared.

All of our education graduates receive a K-12 educational technology endorsement. It's built right into the degree. This means our teachers not only know how to integrate technology into their classrooms, but they can teach computer classes at elementary, middle and high school levels.

Applicants must meet at least one of these requirements: Have an above-average academic record at least equivalent to a "B-" (2.60 on a 4.00 GPA scale), Be in the top 60% of your class, Get an ACT composite score of 18 or above, or get a sub score on the SAT Reasoning Test Math and Critical Reading of 870 or above. English Language Requirements: TOEFL iBT: 79; TOEFL PBT: 550; IELTS: 6.5; PTE Academic: 53; SAT: Minimum sub-score of 500 on both Critical Reading and Writing; ACT: Minimum sub-score of 22 on the Writing/English; Completion of ELS Level 112.
