This BSc top-up is a theoretical and experiential programme, developing greater focus on context and industry specific skills through the use of applied modules. Each module focuses on key professional and practical skills required within the relevant sector.

The BSc top-up recognises gaps within the sport, coaching and fitness industries specific to North Lincolnshire and aims to address this by including topics such as Applied Sport Psychology and Strength and Conditioning at an advanced academic level. The teaching team consists of postgraduate practitioners that have all practiced their specialisms within the field. This includes delivery to elite athletes, community groups, and primary and secondary schools. An important aspect of scholarly activity is the staff-student collaborations that take place in the department. Scholarship is embedded in the core curriculum as well as informal learning to develop the employability skills of students.

The programme aims to:
• Appeal to those wishing to enter a sport related profession as well as those seeking continued professional development.
• Encourage students from disadvantaged groups to engage with Higher Education.
• Provide students with the subject knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to become effective sport and exercise practitioners and meet the needs of local employers.
• Produce well rounded graduates who can make an effective contribution to the skill base of the local economy and region.
• Develop in students a critical understanding of the subject through academic study, practical activity and experiential learning.
• Develop independent and reflective students with the skills to undertake further training, develop existing competencies and acquire new skills that will enable them to progress within their chosen field.

Assessment Methods

A variety of assessment methods are used, including written essays, practical deliveries, case studies, mixed media presentations, a reflective portfolio and the delivery of a seminar.
