The Master of Public Health program is a two-year program which draws on the unique strengths of Cornell University’s multiple colleges and prepares its graduates for careers as public health leaders. The program equips students to combine knowledge of human, environmental, animal and agricultural health for a One Health approach to addressing public health needs. Students may select from two concentration areas: Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Food Systems for Health, both of which draw on the expertise of Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and College of Human Ecology, along with instruction from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations and the Johnson Graduate School of Management. This multidisciplinary approach equips graduates with the core competencies necessary to lead public health initiatives at the municipal, state, national, and international levels.

Currently, the MPH program offers two concentrations:

Infectious Disease and Epidemiology: Graduates will be prepared to prevent, identify, and respond to emerging viral, bacterial, fungal or parasitic disease outbreaks. Students will learn how to measure and track disease spread, map and disseminate appropriate public health communications, and lead a coordinated emergency response to address the public heath need.

Food Systems for Health: Students will learn to take a systems approach to assess and coordinate policies or interventions that ensure safe and sustainable land use, food production, food storage, food processing, food delivery, and consumption. This will include training in toxicology, food safety, food and water security, and/or nutrition. Students will learn how to engage local and global communities to assess systems or needs, develop interventions from a One Health approach, and lead monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure public health needs are being met.

Two-Year MPH

A full-time professional program for individuals with undergraduate degrees, designed to be completed over a 21-month period, including four academic semesters and one summer. Students in the full time, regular MPH program will be expected to pay four semesters of tuition, and be on campus for two academic years. The summer should be spent in the field gaining public health experience.

One-Year MPH

A full-time accelerated professional program for individuals with advanced health-related degrees or substantial public health field experience. This program will be completed in a 12-month period. Students in the accelerated MPH program will be expected to pay three semesters of tuition, and be on campus for 12 months, including time in the field honing public health competence.
