The Bachelor of Information Technology will provide you with the opportunity to become a skilled, innovative and work-ready professional in the information technology industry.

The Bachelor of Information Technology course aims to equip you for a professional career in Information Technology. The core units in this course provide you with a solid grounding in the core body of IT knowledge and skills as defined by the Australian Computer Society (ACS). Major units in all three years of the course allow you to choose an area of major in preparation for employment or further study.

Online option is also available.

COURSE STRUCTURE

You are required to complete a total of 23 units including eight core units, seven units from a choice of three majors in Application Development, Business Analysis or Network Security plus eight electives.

MAJOR OPTIONS

Application Development

The Application Development major will prepare you for a career in application development. You will be exposed to industry best practice in terms of technology, including mobile computing, web development and enterprise computing, systems analysis and design and project management. Through your choice of elective units, you will have the opportunity to either broaden your knowledge base in business application development or develop expertise in specific areas, such as multimedia or games development.

Business Analysis

Business analysis is the ability to identify, define and design a solution to solve business problems. A business analyst is a good communicator and possesses project management skills, as well as an understanding of organizational issues. The Business Analysis major covers topics such as business analysis planning, requirements elicitation and management, requirements and enterprise analysis, and evaluation of alternative solutions. You will study courses from the business perspective that will provide you with an understanding of human behaviour at work and strategic analysis and implementation.

Network Security

The Network Security major focuses on the technologies that are used to create and secure the networks that connect us. As part of this major, you will address topics such as how messages travel over the Internet, what technology is required to deploy reliable networks and how information is kept private and secure. Completing this major may be suitable if you would like to pursue a career in network engineering, network security and systems administration, computer forensics and law enforcement, technical business analysis or technical project management.

Internships Available

Students are able to undertake discipline capstone units while working with industry partners. The capstone units are COIT13230 Application Development Project, COIT13232 Business Analysis Project and COIT13236 Network Security Project.

Undergraduate ICT Internship (COIT13239) - Students have the option of undertaking an internship instead of the capstone units COIT13230, COIT13232 and COIT13236.
