Information technology (IT) is fast-paced, challenging and dynamic. The Bachelor of Information Technology (Co-op) has been developed to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in this growth industry.

Completing this course will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of a variety of key areas in IT and computer-based systems. The course includes an industry placement, typically of three months duration, following the successful completion of half of your course study, where you will gain real-world and hands-on experience within the industry.

Benefit from the flexibility to major in Application Development, Business Analysis or Cyber Security, and choose from an extensive range of elective courses so you can tailor your studies to suit your personal and professional needs.

You can also fast track your studies, by studying units in Term 3, so you can start your career sooner.

You may choose to exit the degree early after completing a number of units and graduate with an Associate Degree of Information Technology or Diploma of Information and Communications Technology.

COURSE STRUCTURE

You are required to complete a total of 23 units including ten core units, one industry placement unit and seven units from a choice of three majors in Application Development, Business Analysis or Network Security plus six electives.

MAJORS

Application Development

The Application Development major will prepare you for a career in application development. You will be exposed to industry best practice in terms of technology, including mobile computing, web development and enterprise computing, systems analysis and design and project management. Through your choice of elective units, you will have the opportunity to either broaden your knowledge base in business application development or develop expertise in specific areas, such as multimedia or games development.

Business Analysis

Business analysis is the ability to identify, define and design a solution to solve business problems.

A business analyst is a good communicator and possesses project management skills, as well as an understanding of organizational issues. The Business Analysis major covers topics such as business analysis planning, requirements elicitation and management, requirements and enterprise analysis, and evaluation of alternative solutions. You will study units from the business perspective that will provide you with an understanding of human behaviour at work and strategic analysis and implementation.

Network Security

The Network Security major focuses on the technologies that are used to create and secure the networks that connect us. As part of this major, you will address topics such as how messages travel over the Internet, what technology is required to deploy reliable networks and how information is kept private and secure. Completing this major may be suitable if you would like to pursue a career in network engineering, network security and systems administration, computer forensics and law enforcement, technical business analysis or technical project management.
