The Foundation Year will allow you to develop your academic study skills and build confidence in your abilities, identifying your own strengths and development needs for progression onto an undergraduate degree.

Where the Foundation Year is taught at our Aylesbury Campus all subsequent years will be taught at our High Wycombe Campus.

What will this course cover?

You'll begin this course looking into the structure and development of the air transport industry. In the first year you'll focus on finance and economics, travel and tourism marketing, and the importance of managing customer service. You'll develop a deep understanding of the industry's key sustainability and operational challenges. We are looking for adaptable, forward-thinking applicants who can develop strong leadership and management qualities.

We'll give you the opportunity to undertake seasonal work experience which will provide you with further insight into the international travel and tourism sector. During this time you'll be able to fine-tune the skills learned in the classroom in a practical, real-time setting.

What are my career prospects

When you graduate from this course, you'll have acquired the skills and in-depth knowledge required for a successful career in this dynamic industry. You may choose to work with tour operators, airlines, airports, destination management companies, or agencies that specialise in public sector tourism planning and development.

You'll also be qualified for work in tourism marketing agencies, and for developers of niche tourism products such as ecotourism. Alternatively, with entrepreneurship being studied in your final year, you may choose to develop your own small tourism venture.
