Our highly respected network learning MSc Organizational Psychology will develop your understanding of people and organisations and knowledge of occupational psychology and organisational behaviour. Network learning at Birkbeck differs from traditional distance learning, as it includes attendance at termly weekend workshops and tutor-facilitated computer conferencing, in addition to online materials. The five weekend workshops are an integral part of the network learning programme and cover topics such as life career development, organisational change, and employee relations and motivation.

Teaching on the course is informed by cutting-edge research in the field and you will be encouraged to engage in critical thinking and to reflect on theory and practice. You will also acquire applied research skills in preparation for an independent research project on a subject that interests you.

You will be taught by leading academics and practitioners who have a wealth of experience in supporting and encouraging students who are studying via network learning. Ours is a friendly, welcoming community of learners who are keen to work hard, share their professional experience with classmates and network and make contacts.

The course requires a commitment of approximately 35 hours (full-time) of study a week. Please discuss in your personal statement how this time will fit in alongside your existing work, family and personal commitments.

This course is also available for full-time and part-time evening study and part-time network learning over two years.

CAREERS AND EMPLOYABILITY

Graduates go in to careers in psychology, human resources and management. Possible professions include occupational psychologist, human resources officer, or probation officer. This degree may also be useful within management roles, including management consultant, retail manager, or logistics and distribution manager.

Students will requires a UK undergraduate degree with a 2:2 classification, they will typically need to have one of the following: a Bachelor's degree (Xueshi) from a 211, 985 or top national university with an overall average grade of 70%; a Bachelor's degree from a national university with an overall average grade of 75%; a Bachelor's degree from a high-ranking private university with an overall average grade of 75%; a Master's degree with an overall average grade of 60%. To study a Master's degree that requires a UK undergraduate degree with a 2:1 classification, they will typically need to have one of the following: a Bachelor's degree (Xueshi) from a 211, 985 or top national university with an overall average grade of 75%; a Bachelor's degree from a national university with an overall average grade of 80%; a Bachelor's degree from a high-ranking private university with an overall average grade of 80%; a Master's degree with an overall average grade of 70%. If they do not meet these criteria, they can apply for Birkbeck’s International Foundation Programme, which acts as a bridge between undergraduate and postgraduate study, preparing students to study a Master’s degree in the UK. There are progression pathways onto various courses at Birkbeck.
