A Degree for Business Leaders

Doctoral degrees are for professionals to build advanced knowledge in their fields, but they’re not all the same, and often confused. For example, a PhD. degree is tailored toward producing academics, as a DBA is customised for future executives.

Aston’s executive DBA is structured for business leaders to build the skills to design and deliver research that makes an impact, strengthen the ability to solve complex business problems, and form an in-depth analysis into a relevant topic and develop a comprehensive research project.

Assessment

Research Methods Course

Each of the Research Method Course modules are assessed through assignments that require you to link the concepts from that module to your own research project.

Qualifying Report

The RMC is designed to lead to the development of a Qualifying Report, a written document approximately 6,000 words in length that forms the basis for your final thesis. The Qualifying Report is examined by viva voce and must be successfully completed before you proceed onto the next stage of the research project.

Final Thesis

The research project culminates in the submission of a final thesis up to 80,000 words in length. The thesis must be successfully defended by viva voce before the degree can be awarded. It can also be published and practically applied to your current role.
